Gateway Yoga STL – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
If you’re searching for “yoga near me,” “hot yoga near me,” “Kirkwood yoga,” or “yoga Kirkwood MO,” you’ve found your community studio. Gateway Yoga STL offers hot power vinyasa, slow flow, and yin—plus welcoming classes for beginners, men, and active adults of all ages.
I’ve never done yoga, what yoga class should I start with?
Great question! Most first-timers begin with Slow Flow to learn foundations at a comfortable pace. If you prefer a gentler reset, try Yin for longer, supported stretches. Not sure which fits your goals (strength, mobility, stress relief)? Send us a note and we’ll match you with the best first class.

What if I’m not flexible?
Perfect—that’s why yoga helps. You don’t need to be flexible to start. With consistent practice, most people notice improved mobility, balance, and ease in everyday movement. Our teachers offer props and modifications so every body can participate.
What are the benefits of yoga?
Yoga supports both body and mind. Common benefits include:
-
Better posture, joint health, and spinal mobility

What is Power Yoga?
Our Power Yoga follows a Baptiste-inspired sequence called Journey Into Power. Expect strong, flowing movement that works every major muscle group while linking breath with motion. It’s energizing, scalable for different levels, and a favorite for those looking for a vinyasa style power yoga class.
Hot Yoga? How hot are your heated classes?
While we offer both heated and unheated classes, we keep our heated “hot” classes around 90°F—warm and challenging, not extreme. (Traditional “hot yoga” is ~105°F.) Many students who thought they didn’t like heat discover they love the sweat and mental focus.
Do you have morning yoga classes?
Yes! We offer morning yoga classes on multiple days each week so you can start strong, centered, and energized. See the latest options on our Schedule.
Do you offer yoga for seniors or people returning to movement?
Absolutely. We welcome active older adults and those rebuilding strength or mobility. Try Slow Flow (props encouraged) or Yin for joint health and gentle mobility. Tell your teacher what you’re working with—we’ll provide prop options and clear modifications.
How do I know If I’m doing it right?
If you’re breathing and moving with awareness, you’re doing it right. Our teachers demo options, offer assists (when appropriate), and suggest modifications and progressions so every student—new or experienced—can practice confidently. It’s a yoga practice, not a yoga perfect.
What should I bring? What should I wear?
Bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one (we have loaners to try). Wear anything you’re comfortable moving and sweating in—no special outfit required. Just be sure you wear clothes that move and stretch with you.
We provide blocks, straps, blankets, sweat towels, and a chilled lavender towel for savasana.
Where are you located? Is there parking?
We’re in Kirkwood, MO with parking in the lot right in front of the studio on S. Kirkwood Rd (plus an easy shortcut via the Edward Jones entrance off Big Bend Rd). If you’re searching for Kirkwood yoga, we’re close, convenient, and easy to find.
